What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

This week has been very exciting for us here at Qru Studios. David Cole, our Director of Special Effects, begins on-location programming for Frankel & Co. on the 5th. Travis John was born to Amanda Prast and Terrence Madler at 3:00 A.M. May 4th. We are very excited and wish Mandy and Terry much luck on the birth of their first son.

On the LAN
Upgrading the Intranet
On Saturday we upgraded our local server software to version 2.0alpha1 of omniHTTPd, a free web server for Windows 95 and NT. The new version features faster access to our Intranet, server side includes for quicker, more consistent web page design, and configurable icons for a look and feel that is uniquely Qru. The entire download and installation process took only half an hour including mapping to in-house LAN drives and CGI and PERL scripts. We have also implemented a secure socket layer that recognizes authorized users of the Intranet so they do not have to re-log on to different secure areas of the Intranet.

Other Software
Our Creative Director has been inspecting several new pieces of software that will greatly impact our efficiency. Of the more interesting; an explorer extension that allows direct mapping of FTP sites through your explorer which lets one drag and drop, or copy and paste files to and from an FTP server. As well the evaluation of several graphic viewers and filing systems to make the most of internet and local resources. In addition to that some other devices were reviewed. some that can expand the Windows 95 work area or get rid of those unwanted icons and widgets (or at least render helpless) the Microsoft minions that have infiltrated your precious hard drive. Through this research a list of suitable software and intended results will be established for budget evaluation.

Phoenix Ignites
Experts at the custom interface design laboratories of Qru Studios have installed flames on the Phoenix, our mobile presentation unit. This is a part of a project to give each computer a unique desktop theme relating to the personality of the machine. We plan to make each theme available for public distribution as soon as all of our computers are customized.

America Off-Line
One of our company KnowMadz, mogur@knowmadz.org, in New York City has just logged on to ggg.net for a local service provider. This transition from AOL will certainly bring greater capability to our network of friends and make use of our higher end technologies currently unavailable or difficult to set up through America Online's proprietary system.

On the See
Tid-Bytes
While researching our sites on various browsers we found that the spinner animation on the content page of space did not work properly on Microsoft's Internet Explorer. We have changes the way the animation runs so it is now viewable on all browsers that support advanced HTML. The Inner Outpost now has a banner on Web Ads Express Banner Network. This will lead to greater exposure for the Outpost and all of our clients posted there. We are in the process of applying for several new awards for all of our sites and will be showcasing them in our upcoming trophy room.

Client Side
One Page Wonders
As the internet grows everyone realizes the potential to advertise internationally can be quite an advantage. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to make the financial leap into cybrespace, set up a domain, hosting e-mail and all that just to deliver a simple message. Some of these people don't even have a computer! With this in mind we provide single pages that have been gradually getting greater reception. Our most recent addition to these small sites is a page for John Hickey of the Gaffney Travel Service. He is advertising two packages of travel arrangements to Ireland where you can go to see the Chicago Bears play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Croke Park, Dublin. Sounds like fun, huh? let's all go! (time permitting of course). Another potential client was so pleased with our package that she is considering two single page sites. Each of our small sites are linked off of the Inner Outpost giving them a level of visibility unknown to those who host their pages with their ISP. If you are interested in the tour or our single page ads you can find more information at The Inner Outpost or send E-mail to Servil, our butler bot, at servil@io.qru.com.
