Notes from you

There is atide in the affairs of men, which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.
~Shakespeare, Julius Caesar IV,3

This week at Qru Studios we got a couple of e-mails from people mentioning that they had received two copies of the newsletter. We would like to apologize for this occurrence and assure you that it will not happen again. While finalizing the mailing list for public distribution we had to ensure that the lines would wrap properly for easy reading. Unfortunately our initial remedy did not do the job so we sent the second copy out so you all could share in our ultimate success. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Tech Tips
Tech Tips is our newsletter related to trends and software on the Internet. The premier issue, currently available, focuses on software necessary to browsing the Internet with as much success and ease as possible. As well several pieces of trivia about qru.com and articles addressing security problems found on Microsoft's Internet Explorer are of particular interest to our readers. As a supplement to the newsletter we have added a forum for public discussion. Here you can post any questions and comments you have related to hardware, software, viruses, or any other technical aspect of computing. There is also the opportunity to respond to each other so check back here often to see if your comment has sparked any discussion or if you have something to say to another posting. Your questions and comments will help to direct the newsletter to issues of common interest. A complimentary issue of Tech Tips will be sent out this Wednesday. For continued subscriptions please sign our mailing list as no one will be put there automatically. Tech Tips will be posted out on alternating Wednesdays.

Featuring...

The KnowMadz Gallery
Qru Studios sponsors a gallery of work created by The KnowMadz when they were living at the House. Currently an archive of the works of three KnowMadz, they hope to expand their gallery as they run into lost members of their tribe. Coming across some of their work from the Dawn of Time, The KnowMadz posted it to show the public how they progressed through time in both medium and concept.

On the LAN

Intranets R Us
Powow
Our very own Intranet has now completed prototyping phase and is fully functional. We offer non-proprietary WAN access to members of Qru Studios nationwide right through a web browser. We utilize many of our own scripts including; the calendar, an employee bulletin board search engines, easy access to statistical information as well as instant access search engines on our site and on the Internet along with several graphical navigation and instruction pages. This system is highly secure and will be a featured product of Qru Studios into the foreseeable future.

Currently we are in the testing phases of Powow, an Internet chat program that also allows for voice communication and group browsing over the Internet. Current results have shown that Powow cannot be used by proxy clients but that limitation only affects a small minority of users. A full review of this software will be featured in Tech Tips when testing is complete.

On the See

Hypre Space has added an interactive maze. Travel through a vast array of hall ways and passages in search of a way out. There is an award waiting for those who find it.

A new book of poems has been added to the library. David Cole has added Minim Eyes, a collection of his own original works, for all to see. For those of you who could not take the bleak morbidity of the Book of Small i, this book may be a little more to your liking.

Qru Studios now has its very own ASCII Art Gallery. The phenomenon of ASCII art on the Internet might baffle some, but this modern-day form of artistry has entire sites and newsgroups dedicated to discussing the best fonts for various line types and showing off recent works.

Last week's featured section, the staff pages, now has a search engine. If you are looking for a particular capability in our resumes or are interested in something of our personal pages, finding it has been made as easy as looking up a name in the phone book.

Client Side

Fiduciary Trust Company International has just sent us a package of revisions and updates to their site. Qru Studios has been working with Fiduciary since our inception over a year ago. A multinational trust company, they have a content driven site filled with information on investing, taxes, managing trusts and estates, and much more. We will soon be adding their annual report for 1996. Visiting Fiduciary Trust's web site can give you access to the economic information used by some of the most prestigious clients in the world.

The calendar in the Metaphysical section of the KnowMadz site has been filled. Using a variety of resources, holidays and holy days of a variety of beliefs and cultures, modern and ancient, are available for reference to all. We will soon be adding a complete listing of Wiccan holidays. If anyone knows of a culture we were unaware of, The KnowMadz are happy to take your E-mails and add information as you send it in. Part of the beauty of the calendar is that while every culture has holidays and festivals unique to themselves, it becomes apparent how many cultures celebrate the same events in their own ways.

Qru Studios Incorporated and American Information Systems, one of the largest Internet service providers in Chicagoland, are currently engaged in negotiations. While very interested in doing design work and implementing Internet applications for them and their clients, we felt that the initial contract did not meet the needs of Qru Studios. Wishing to utilize our services, the people at AIS are working with us to put together a more amenable contract.
