"It is not enough to have a good mind, the main thing is to use it well"
~Rene Descarte

Looking forward and looking back, the favored pass time of New Years. Another traditional holiday approaches as we come to the beginning of 1998. We hope all of you have a safe and adventure so near the edge of a new millenia. At The Studio, we have gone through many changes, and still more abound. Only two more issues of Qru's News before we enter a new volume, and a change of format. We wish you all the best in a New Year.

Who and What?
Us and Them, the long awaited next outpost from The Studio has gone online. Initial phases of the recovered site in progress orinally stored on the ill fated "Esoteria" Hard Drive are going online. Much initiative was lost, but enough of the original material still existed to assemble a skeletal site that will be incorporating more of our high-tech features in new and different ways. Essentially a jump off to many resources on our sites and the sites of our friends we expect many visitors to benefit from the convenient location off of knowmadz.org increasing access to our value added content.

The LAN pages, now reflect the new averages and totals of configured hardware local to The Studio. Although through the last four months there has been a drop in average RAM and Speed most machines now all have CD ROM drives installed, some with some very special features ranging from recordable, magnito optical, to multidrive. Several modems have emerged and one new operating system was installed as well as three new systems have been born. These pages and specifications will constantly be in flux, if you have not seen them, or seen them lately, you may just want to know the tools we used to get this stuff up here. We hope to be including animations and database capability. In the meantime, if we are not building the machines we are updating their pages.

Something to Figure
This week a large portion of time otherwise belonging to our Creative Director Tate Madler was spent constructing Human figure models with a space-age motiff that are being auditioned for cover art for Microtech U.S.A. postcard mailings. Two models, one male and one female are improvements on those featured in animations first seen at The @ Cafe more than two years ago. The overall accuracy and detail is far more meticulous, and the results are looking like some of the most professional three dimensional models this side of Toy Story. We look forward to giving you a glimpse into todays future with this dynamic duo.

Hard Drive Hopscotch
The main system drive of the Obelisk was reinstalled on to a SCSI Hard drive enabling far more efficient throughput and with greatly decreased overhead. Enhancing gateway and vastly improved performance. The old system on a 2.1 GB IDE drive was transfered to replace the fragmented system drive of Beauty. The replaced system drive of Beauty also 2.1 GB was transfered to unburden The Beast as temporary storage for its growing task of backing up client and production material to CD ROM. So, if you did not follow that, it basically translates to, The Obelisk, down 2 GB but much happier for it, Beauty is back to fully functional, and The Beast will be working more than ever.
An additional 9 MB of RAM were added to Loki bringing our UNIX box up to 17 MB. All these changes took place in the course of one short evening at the expert hands of Tate Madler, who also constructed an Intel Pentium MMX with all the bells and whistles that same day. ...Santa thought he had good help.

Client Side

Anticorp under fire
On the eve of Christmas an E-mail was placed in the mailbox of myob@anticorp.com. It was from a "globally aware" attorney that has apparently done a body of work under the pen-name of Anti-Corp. The main issue of concern was copyright and idea infringement. Obviously a greivous error in the difference of spelling leaves little to be discussed. Although no plans for litigation were discussed outright the threat may exist. Anticorp Incorporated representatives were unable to contact Mister Anti-Corp to rectify this identity crisis. However, we will keep you informed on all the gory details as they arise.
