The Egyptians were attributed as the grandfathers of modern civilization. Largely this is from a technological perspective. As their religious beliefs were quite unconventional compared to modern theology. The Egyptians believed in many gods the main one of which was Ra, the all Powerful good of the sun. Living in the dessert one could understand their respect. Also their religion included many animals. Powerful animal symbols were the Owl (eternal symbol of wisdom), the Asp (a snake), dogs, and the one of which they were most fond of was the cat. Often their gods were represented by a composite being part human part animal, an example of which would be the Great Sphinx. Anubis, was their equivalent of Satan and was represented by a human with the head of a dog.

Another interesting aspect of the Egyptians was their belief in divine intervention. This was the process by which the gods appointed the leader of the country known as a Pharaoh much like a king or a Tzar. They believed that their ruler was a deity and all creatures had an after life. Eternal life was symbolized by the Ankh (pronounced 'anK) Holding true to this belief great pyramids were constructed to protect and entertain the Ka or soul of the deceased.
