On Nuclear Power:

Missiles or Meltdown?

November 1985 Nuclear power is fine, efficient, and clean if used properly. For the most part I think it is safe and the risk of meltdown is about the same as getting hit by a sailboat walking on State Street. What we, as fellow human beings should worry about are the negative uses of nuclear energy, i.e. war in weighing energy against war, meltdown or apocalypse. I prefer the former personally because Nuclear reactors have positive intention a clear, abundant, efficient power source not built to destroy.

Sure, there's a little risk to you and the people you love. People take chances like that everyday spending hours in front of a television that could explode at any given moment, taking a Sunday drive there is a slight chance of a drunk driver swerving into the quaint, cozy space that your car occupies spreading you and your family on the windshield...it wouldn't have happened if you would have used your safety restraints. The same principle is applied to nuclear energy in production all safety precautions are met and they exceed the national requirements. Where as to contrast nuclear weapons pose a threat similar to tailgating a Pinto hoping it will stop....living with the risk, until you explode.

Reader's Note: After reflection and further education the author revokes his prudence regarding nuclear power after a few brief moments of employment with the Greenpeace Canvass Office in Chicago 1990.
