This Machine is Dead was inspired by the Pratt Computer Lab posting of the sign (pictured at right) on a terminal. The installation was a new take on the ancient dolmen concept wherein rather than using huge stones the Know Madz piled complex objects of technology. The piece contained televisions, stereos, radios, monitors, dot matrix printers, computer keyboards, a music keyboard a toaster, and a variety of otherwise commonplace items that have outlived usefulness or functionality. A monument to planned obsolescence responses were positive However, the atmosphere was somewhat dark, as it was also a shrine to the state of emotions as the end of the one year settlement approached.
